SUMMARY An HVAC technician is responsible for retrofit and repair of environmental comfort systems, utilizing knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, and mechanical layouts. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
§ Responsible for servicing product and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
§ Performs repairs, overhauls, and start-ups of commercial HVAC systems.
§ Uses a variety of hand tools, following blueprints, wiring diagrams, piping schemes or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
§ Uses power tools and computers.
§ Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and products at customer's location.
§ Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
§ Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and coordinating on-site work, as necessary.
§ Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition and literature supplies.
§ Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals, scheduling, and completing repairs and maintenance service.
§ Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
§ Documents work by completing paperwork on each job and maintaining files.
§ Represents company by serving as a direct customer contact.
§ Determines parts to order for repairs and timeliness of need.
§ Keeps current on all products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair.
§ Provides technical support to customers.
§ Regular travel requirements with occasional overnight travel.
§ Expected to serve a minimum of one-week standby duty per year for emergency service.
Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
Requirements
Each HVAC technician must have the ability to work in harmony with all members of the organization and display that ability on an ongoing, daily basis.
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or 5 years apprenticeship; and one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license required
EPA Approved Universal Technician Certification required
License preferred (e.g., HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer, etc.)
